Salford based orchestra BBC Philharmonic returns to
Hull City Hall for a concert led by Dutch conductor Jac
van Steen and joined by leading violinist Tasmin Little.
Opening with with Elgar’s colourful musical portrait of
Southern Italy, In The South, followed by Walton’s Violin
Concerto, which was commissioned by Russian violinist
Jascha Heifetz in 1936. The second half includes the
works of two of the greatest French composers with
excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen, one of the most popular
and most performed operas of all time, and Debussy’s La
Mer, the impressionist composer’s set of three symphonic
sketches inspired by the sea.
