Four cellists from the Hull Phil – Jim Gillespie, Chris Pollock, Lynne Gill & Stephen Cook – ventured out to the wilds of Welwick on the afternoon of Sunday 17th April to entertain a small but very appreciative audience in St Mary’s Church.  The music, spanning four centuries, included traditional pieces, classical and modern, all arranged very sensitively for cello quartet.  Cohen’s Pizzipeezy contrasted very effectively with Michelle (Lennon & McCartney, arr Johnstone).  Buttall’s The Lone Ar-ranger had the audience marveling at how many different recognisable tunes were cleverly interwoven, and Libertango, by Piazzolla, arr Halsey, was requested as an encore.

Proceeds were shared between St Mary’s and the Hull Phil.
