We are pledging 250 tickets to young students for its February concert in a Buy One Get One Free scheme made possible by Williamsons Solicitors.

The offer celebrates the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth and the return of Hull-born internationally acclaimed pianist Robert Markham.

He will perform the Piano Concerto Number 3 in C Minor at Hull City Hall on Feb 29 as part of a thrilling programme that includes Airport Scenes from the opera Flight by Jonathan Dove and the Symphonic Dances by Rachmaninov.

Williamsons Solicitors have sponsored the Hull Philharmonic’s Young Audience Ticket Scheme for the 2019/2020 season. The firm, which has also provided a home for the orchestra’s extensive music library, has been a long-term supporter.

The free tickets are available to any student engaged in music aged 11-18 who attends the concert accompanied by one paying ticket holder.

Bob Mitchell, chair of the Hull Philharmonic’s executive committee, said: “We hope our offer encourages many young people and, in particular, the region’s piano students who will no doubt be inspired by our amazing soloist.”

Williamsons director Bill Waddington said: “We hope that our support of this initiative will encourage budding young musicians and contribute to the thriving cultural life of our city.”

Robert Markham left the area to study at the Julliard School in New York at the age of 17. He has won numerous prizes at major international competitions and was a finalist at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow and piano class winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition. He performs extensively and works at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

The concert also features guest conductor Tim Redmond, professor at the Guildhall School of Music and regular guest conductor with London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The concert starts at 7.30pm, but ticket holders are invited to attend a pre-concert talk with the orchestra’s musical director Andrew Penny, Robert Markham and Tim Redmond.
