Event: 6000 Pipes!

6000 Pipes!

Another chance to enjoy our special commission for 2017 by Sir Karl Jenkins.

Conductor: Andrew Penny
Organ: Jonathan Scott

Karl Jenkins:  6000 Pipes!

Poulenc:  Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani

Alfred Hollins:  Concert Overture in C minor

Cesar Frank:  Symphony in D minor

6000 Pipes! was premiered by the ‘Phil’ in February 2017 and has since been broadcast on Classic fM. Jonathan Scott returns as our soloist in the effervescent Poulenc Concerto and he also includes a work by Alfred Hollins, born in Hull in 1865 and blind from birth. An amazing talent, he toured the world demonstrating organs, sometimes for Forster and Andrews of Hull, who built the instrument in our own City Hall. Hollins died in 1942, a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and with an Honorary Doctorate from Edinburgh University.
